Hammond is so cool playing his guitar up to his chest
Those of you who like The Strokes might be familiar with Albert Hammond Jr. He’s the rhythm (sometimes lead) guitarist of The Strokes - the one with the curly hair and a stratocaster. When not rocking out with The Strokes, he is a solo singer song-writer.
Always liked Albert’s style with those clean and simple melodies. To my surprise, he can sing as good as Julian Casablancas - and to be honest I prefer Albert’s singing over Casablancas’ :D. Not sure exactly what genre this falls into, but I think it’s safe to say that it sounds Indie. I quickly fell in love when I watched his music video, 101. Nice suit he got there.
Sure u guys (Indonesians or Malaysians :D) know Andra & the Backbone’s Sempurna. Was surfing random stuff the other day and stumbled upon this, somewhat similar song. Only this one is done by Japanese pop duo Double U. The intro is almost 100% the same. Not sure who copy who, but Indonesia has quite a reputation of ripping off stuff lol.
Was really pissed when I found out I can’t play it with my gamepad. But later I found out playing with keyboard and mouse is more fun lol. It works like the Guitar Hero controller, where I fret with my left hand on keyboard and pick/strum with my right hand on mouse. I can have fun and train my fretting hand at the same time, kill two birds with a stone there.
In terms of graphic ofcourse, PC wins. It’s just that the requirements doesnt make up with the outdated graphic, there will always be a glitch here and there even if you have high-end hardwares. My case, settings are lowest and disable the crowds - yeah, still lags somewhere along the way causing me to screw up perfect streaks.
Slash will jam along if you play ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
Overall it’s a poor port from PS2 by Aspyr (heck, any games that been ported from PS2 to PC sucks), but still worth it for me. Well don’t get me wrong, Guitar Hero 3 itself is a damn fine game. Total of 74 songs and widely diverse, from pop, rock ‘n roll, to shredding metal.
Tired of listening to the same music over and over again? If you’re like me - who has a very specific music taste - chances are that you have little to no ppl who share the same musical taste as you do. That’s where Last.fm play its part.
Last.fm also has a quite extensive database of music artists, be it mainstream or indie/underground
Last.fm basically records every song you listen (called scrobbling) and then compile them in stats. Once you’ve listened enough tracks, Last.fm will generate neighbours. Neighbours are people with similar music taste based on genre/artist. Discover new bands as you search within your musical taste. Funny thing is, I only discovered Maaya Sakamoto (jpop) after using last.fm lol.
I find last.fm to be a good place to discover new bands to listen to. Check out my last.fm page. Oh, and btw, the computer I use is shared. So, sometimes my list is messed up with my brother’s music lol.
Hoover’s Ooover ((フーバーオーバー) katakana read as hu-ba-o-ba-) is a four-piece Japanese indie band. They are tagged as alternative rock but I also noticed a lot of reggae/ska influence in some of the songs. According to some info I dugged out, they are best known to Western audiences for their appearance on the BBC Three show “Adam and Joe Go Tokyo”, where they performed their song Collection. Watch the mentioned video at youtube.
One of the uniqueness of this band is the female vocalist. If you’ve watched the video link above you should know that the vocalist can sing very fast. Of course it’s not only speed, the vocalist has a nice, somewhat childish voice that really fits their style of music. Hoover’s Ooover is a good choice if you want to try something different, their music is not too hard either. As for suggestions, I think Art. No. 5 is their best album yet (Dunno if they released a new one), I basically love all the tracks in it. Apparently a lot of their videos in youtube are gone - you just have to settle for collection and lurk in p2p :D
